By law, certain cars, vans, trucks, motor homes and buses must pass a Drive Clean test before they can be licensed to be driven on city roads. The test determines if your vehicle meets Ontario's emissions standards. This test is only conducted in accredited Drive Clean Test or Test and Repair facilities like Clancy’s Service Centre.
When to Get Your Vehicle Tested
Generally, you need to get your car tested every 2 years once your vehicle is 7 years old. Larger, heavy-duty vehicles are required to undergo this test every year, starting on their seventh year of use or when vehicle ownership is transferred.
The Ministry of Transportation will notify you when your vehicle needs to go through an emissions test. The notification usually accompanies your registration renewal documents whether it be online or via mail.
